Secret Solstice Festival

19th–21st June 2015 Reykjavík, Iceland

For only its second year, Secret Solstice will take place over three days in the world’s most northerly capital city Reykjavík in Iceland, from 19th – 21st June 2015. Its geographical location means that over this summer solstice weekend, the sun doesn’t set for three whole days, making this an entirely unique festival experience.

The atmosphere is heightened by the festival’s Norse religion and mythology theme, a spectacular natural light show, the inclusion of features such as geothermal pool on the festival site and the opportunity to eat traditional Icelandic delicacies such as fermented shark! The festival’s Director Fred Olafsson claims it to be one of the most eco-friendly festivals in the world, due to the fact that all of the festival’s power comes from geothermal or hydro-electricity.

The festival has on site camping and you can hire tents. Alternatively there are a range of local hotel options.

Getting there

International flights land at Leifsstöð international airport in Keflavík which is about an hour outside the capital city of Reykjavík where the festival takes place.

The weather is usually mild although it can be more temperamental than some of the European destinations covered in this article, so keep an eye on the forecast.
