Allianz Assistance Celebrates Five Years of BTCC Success with Team BMW

London, 17th March 2021: Allianz Assistance UK has confirmed that it will be backing Team BMW at the 2021 British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) for the fifth year in a row. The automotive assistance provider’s support of the team in recent years demonstrates its longstanding commitment to the BMW brand.
Once again, the team will be fronted by four-time BTCC champion Colin Turkington, who also celebrates five consecutive years with West Surrey Racing (WSR) as part of Team BMW this year. Ramping up from a two to a three-strong squad, he will be joined by Tom Oliphant and Stephen Jelley, who returns to Team BMW for 2021. Turkington finished as runner-up in the Driver’s title last year and collectively, Turkington, Oliphant and Jelley have won a total of 60 races throughout their BTCC careers. This, alongside BMW winning the Manufacturer’s title for a record-equalling fifth year running and Team BMW topping the Team’s title leaderboard in 2020, renders the trio one of the most formidable teams of this season.
Kicking off at Thruxton on the 8-9th May, this year’s series of events will see all three drivers take to the tracks in BMW 330i M Sport vehicles, displaying the sleek black, blue and red livery that was publicly revealed today. The look, which was debuted by the team in 2020, features prominent Allianz Assistance branding and further illustrates the strong relationship between the two brands.
“We are thrilled to be getting behind Team WSR and BMW again this year,” comments Tim Tozer, CEO at Allianz Assistance UK. “We’ve seen some great moments during our involvement with the event in previous years and the highly skilled drivers paired with expertly manufactured vehicles puts the team in great stead to see further success in 2021. With the return of spectators to sporting events looking positive for the majority of this year’s BTCC season, we’re anticipating some fantastic opportunities to celebrate five years of collaboration with the team.”
Colin Turkington adds: “I’m really looking forward to what BTCC will bring for myself and the team this season. I’m extremely proud to be a part of WSR and Team BMW and of everything we’ve achieved together so far. The car really is phenomenal and I can’t wait to experience the buzz around the race track as we come back even more determined than last year. To have the additional support of such a big brand in the automotive industry means a lot, and the livery – which looks fantastic – really goes to show that.”
