Although the healthcare in public hospitals is more affordable than private hospitals, it is worth remembering that the standard of medical care on offer can be considered below Western standards.

Some parts of the country have better healthcare facilities than others. The Dominican Republic do have emergency services, but they are not always reliable. Often, utilising a taxi service to get you to medical facilities if you need them can be a better option.
